Dear Parent of a Learning Different child,
Since July 1999, we have been part of a
trial exercise for an educational aid called TURBO-TUTOR®. Our son's piano teacher
came across the opportunity on the Internet. Let me tell you how it has benefited
us.
TURBO-TUTOR is easy to use. The
instructions, both written and on video, are very specific and detailed.
You don't
have to be a teacher or have special training to use this. It's handy to have most
everything you need in one small box. Other items are easily found around the house.
Another learning enhancement tool we once used required renting out a small
computer which we soon had to give back. It is convenient that the materials are
simple and at hand.
Another part of the simplicity is
that using TURBO-TUTOR to help our son doesn't require hours of driving to see a
specialist, or lots of money to pay the specialist!
While TURBO-TUTOR has a sequenced
plan for moving through the games, these games can be rearranged to personalize them to
your child's needs. The back-up team of TURBO-TUTOR staff are approachable and
responsive, just a phone call or an e-mail away.
TURBO-TUTOR is fun for both parent
and child. It has a "you're a winner" approach that builds up the child's
confidence.
Our results in four months of using
TURBO-TUTOR, is that Stephen is having his first success with spelling.
I believe
his overall focus is better. He is making faster progress in math.
He has not
used any ritalin for ADD since we began. His handwriting has improved.
TURBO-TUTOR dovetailed with some
educational testing we had done on Stephen. The testing in June showed that a big
weak area for him is visual memory. We know from dyslexia tendencies that sequencing
is also a problem. TURBO-TUTOR has allowed us to exercise and strengthen both these
areas with the various colored cubes games.
I find that Stephen has a better
overall school day (we home school), when we start the morning with TURBO-TUTOR.
We
sit down at the dining room table and away we go. I think he feels more confident
in himself with TURBO-TUTOR.>
I just asked Stephen if he had any
comments about TURBO-TUTOR. He didn't (that's normal!). But I will say on his
behalf that if we don't do TURBO-TUTOR, he reminds me, saying "Hey, we never did
TURBO-TUTOR!" TURBO-TUTOR is one part of Stephen's school day
that he enjoys.
